SerialWare Basic

The simplest and most-affordable product we offer, may also be the most useful. It can handle most situations where simple control over a device is needed. Connect to up to 14 serial connections and send up to 2 signals in sequence per button.

All of our products come with SerialWare Builder. This Windows-based software makes it simple to create and deploy your Serial Control Panel, without knowing any programming. Simple click and select options allow you to choose what you want and how you want it.

Home Entertainment Center Example:

Let's say I had a flat screen TV with 3 HDMI ports. In HDMI-1, I have my DVD player. In HDMI-2 is my DirecTV Receiver. And in HDMI-3 is my Xbox. I want to be able to control what is displayed on the TV using my computer instead of a remote control.

When I start the SerialWare Builder, it first asks me to configure the COM settings. I select to use COM1, and I fill in the Partity, Databits, Stopbits, Encoding, and Handshake as defined in my TV's manual. I then select the DVD Player button. This allows me to fill in the RS232 code that tells the TV to change to HDMI-1. I repeat this for the TV button and the Xbox button. I also fill in the codes for turning the TV on and off. Finally, I add codes to the TV volume controller.

When finished, an executable installer will be generated. I run this and I now have my TV control panel. I can turn the TV on or off, control the volume, and switch between my TV, DVD, and Xbox all from my computer.

Classroom Example:

Let's say I have a classroom with a projector. In this classroom is:

  • a desktop computer connected to the projector via VGA

  • a document camera connected to the projector via s-video

  • a connection for a laptop connected to the projector via VGA2

You want the projector to turn on automatically when the teacher logs into the computer and turn off when the teacher logs out. You also want the teacher to be able to turn the projector off or picture mute the projector at any time. Finally, the teacher will want to be able to switch bewteen the desktop, laptop, and document camera with a simple click as well as control the volume.

All this can be set up and deployed using the SerialWare Builder in a matter of minutes. Simply set each RS232 code for each button and generate the installer. When asked, choose the option to "start controller on login for all users". Also choose the option "Turn projector/TV on when starting and off when stopping". Install on the desktop in the classroom and attach the serial cable from the desktop to the projector.
